Petra Kvitova suffered an early exit at the WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, losing in the second round in Stuttgart to Alisa Kleybanova.

The former Wimbledon champion, the third seed for the tournament, was beaten 6-2 7-6 (7/3) having let slip a 5-3 lead in the second set against a player ranked outside the world's top 100.

World No 102 Kleybanova had not beaten a player ranked inside the top 10 since 2011, during which time the 24-year-old Russian has fought her way back after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and and only returned to tennis last year.

Jelena Jankovic or Flavia Pennetta now await in the quarter-finals, while Sara Errani - who came from a break down in both sets to beat Kaia Kanepi 6-3 6-3 - is also through to the last eight.

In Wednesday's first round action, Ana Ivanovic needed just an hour to brush aside the challenge of home favourite Sabine Lisicki 6-1 6-3.

Another German, Andrea Petkovic, also suffered an early exit, losing 7-5 3-6 6-1 to Flavia Pennetta.

Julia Goerges at least offered some success for the locals, the 2011 champion overcoming Sorana Cirstea 6-1 7-5.
