Daniela Hantuchova: Reeled off a run of five successive games to take control
Top seed Daniela Hantuchova reached the last eight of the WTA Marrakech Grand Prix thanks to a 7-5 6-2 victory over Lourdes Dominguez Lino.
The Slovakian had struggled past world No 176 Renata Voracova in the first round but was always in control against her Spanish opponent - who was beaten in the final of the event last year - once she won five successive games.
The impressive run clinched Hantuchova the opening set and then put her 2-0 up at the start of the second, paving the way for her to celebrate her 31st birthday in style.
Dominguez Lino had wasted the chance to serve out for the first set as she suffered a seventh successive loss against a player she has only beaten previously in Fed Cup action.
Hantuchova will next face sixth-seed Peng Shuai, who overcame Ukraine's Maryna Zanevska 6-4 7-6 (7/5) in the second round.
Israel's Shahar Peer is also through to the quarter-finals after a hard-fought 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 7-6 (7/3) triumph over Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, with the Austrian having failed to serve out for the match at 5-4 and then 6-5 in the deciding set.
Fifth-seed Garbine Muguruza beat Stefanie Voegele 6-3 6-2 to set up a clash with Peer, while Wednesday's only match in the first round saw Polona Hercog surprise seventh-seed Shuai Zhang 6-2 6-2.
Zhang dropped serve five times in total against Hercog, who had been sidelined by a right rib injury since the Australian Open having retired in the first round in Melbourne because of a right shoulder injury.
