Home favourite and top seed Agnieszka Radwanska said the presence of her grandmother inspired her to victory over Yvonne Meusburger at the Katowice Open on Friday.

The Polish No 1 dispatched the sixth-seeded Austrian 6-4 6-1 to secure her 21st WTA victory of the year and reach the semi-finals of her home town tournament.

And afterwards, the world No 3, who is playing her first WTA tournament in Poland in seven years, told the official WTA website: "One of the things I like most about this tournament is that it's not far from the place where I live, it's like a 45-minute drive away.

"I got really excited when I noticed my beloved grandma Wieslawa beside my mother in the stands."

"I got really excited when I noticed my beloved grandma Wieslawa beside my mother in the stands. She has always been one of my biggest fans and supporters, she has watched all my matches on TV or internet since the very beginning of my career.

"But never before had she seen me play live, and now she can come to see all of my matches.

"Her presence gives me positive vibes. I'm so happy!"

The 25-year-old will next play Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, who suffered a second set collapse against fifth-seeded Czech Klara Koukalova before coming through 6-2 0-6 6-2.

Third seed Carla Suarez Navarro eased to a 6-2 6-3 win over Magdalena Rybarikova and next meets unseeded Camila Giorgi, who beat Shahar Peer 6-1 6-4.
