British number three Heather Watson progressed through the first round of qualifying for Indian Wells with a straight-sets victory over Virginie Razzano.
The 21-year-old, who was given a qualifying wild card, claimed a 6-1 6-4 win over her French opponent, who was seeded seventh in qualifying.
Watson, who won four of her 10 break points in the match, sealed victory in one hour 16 minutes at Indian Wells, California.
The Guernsey-born right-hander will now face Teliana Periera of Brazil in her second-round qualifier.
British No 2 Johanna Konta also advanced with a hard-fought win over Petra Martic.
Konta, ranked 116th in the world, needed almost two-and-a-half hours to overcome the Croatian 6-3 4-6 6-3.
Konta's reward is a meeting with Australian Casey Dellacqua.
