Andy Murray takes a step into the unknown as he returns to action by making his debut in Acapulco this week where he will face Pablo Andujar for a first time.

Murray is normally found over in the Dubai Duty Free Championship at this time of year, but he has opted for a change of scenery as he continues his recovery from last year's back surgery.

The event in Mexico is being played on hardcourts for the first time after being staged on clay for the last 20 years, which has given Murray the opportunity to sample the event.

The World No 7 is seeded second in Mexico behind three-time champion David Ferrer, who is aiming for a fifth straight final after winning three in a row before losing out to Rafa Nadal last year.

Murray will face World No 34 Andujar in his first match in the tournament, with the Spaniard coming off a fine performance in Rio last week when he lost out to Nadal in the semi-finals.

It will be the first meeting between the two men on the ATP Tour, although they did meet in 2005 in the Spain Futures when Murray won in three sets.

The British No 1 produced a battling display at the Australian Open before helping GB beat America in the Davis Cup, with a quarter-final in Rotterdam on his last outing as he continues to get his fitness back in order.

On offer in Acapulco is one of the more eye-catching of trophies, with the winner being handed a giant golden pear along with a giant sombrero for their victory.

Watch Andy Murray make his Acapulco debut with the ATP Mexican Open live on Sky Sports 3 from midnight.
