Top seed David Ferrer beat Fabio Fognini in straight sets to win the Copa Claro trophy for a third consecutive year.
Ferrer beat the second-seeded Italian Fognini 6-4 6-3 in one hour and 15 minutes in Buenos Aires thanks to two breaks of serve in the first set and one late in the second.
The Spaniard raced into a 3-0 lead in the opener but Fognini got the break back at 3-2 and looked set to take it to the tie-break, only to drop serve at 5-4 down.
Ferrer broke in the penultimate game of the second set and claimed his 21st ATP World Tour title, while Fognini was denied a second clay title in as many weeks after winning in Chile last weekend.
Ferrer had not planned to return this year but stood in at the last minute following world No 1 Rafael Nadal's withdrawal through injury.
His victory is his first title since this tournament 12 months ago, ends a run of seven final defeats in a row and means he will move above Juan Martin del Potro to No 4 in the world rankings when they are updated on Monday.
"This title was very important to me after seven finals without a victory," said Ferrer.
