John Isner: American fired 23 aces during Heineken Open final win
World No 14 John Isner claimed the Heineken Open title in Auckland for the second time with a 7-6 (7/4) 7-6 (9/7) victory over Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun.
Isner sent down 23 aces and held his nerve in both tie-breaks to quell the challenge of 62nd-ranked Lu, who had ended David Ferrer's three-year reign as champion in the last four and was appearing in his first ATP Tour final.
"I played exceptionally well today and I needed every bit of it to come out on top," said American Isner, who also won this event in 2010 and now has eight career titles to his name.
Isner now moves onto the Australian Open where he will face a qualifier in the first round.
