Ana Ivanovic maintained her excellent form in New Zealand as she reached the semi-finals of the Auckland Classic with a straight sets victory over Kurumi Nara of Japan.

The No 2 seed required just 77 minutes to dispose of the 22-year-old world No 81 6-2 6-3.

At one stage, Ivanovic reeled off eight games in a row, after recovering from the early set-back of losing her second service game.

The Serb is yet to drop a set this week and will now play her doubles partner Kirsten Flipkens for a place in the final.

Also through is another former world No 1 Venus Williams who beat Garbine Muguruza of Spain 6-3 6-3.

The 33-year-old American - now ranked 47 - never trailed during the one-sided contest and will now face her compatriot and No 5 seed Jamie Hampton.
