Maria Sharapova has named Dutchman Sven Groeneveld as her new coach.

The Russian split from long-term coach Thomas Hogstedt after Wimbledon and briefly linked up with Jimmy Connors for just one match before parting company with the American.

Sharapova has been working with Groeneveld in recent weeks and is pleased with the new partnership.

She wrote on her Facebook page: "I'm happy to announce my official partnership with Sven Groeneveld.

"We've been working together since I got back on the court and after seeing him on the opposing side for so many years, I'm excited to have him become a part of my team.

"It has been a very seamless transition and I have had a lot of fun with the hard work we have put in so far. Looking forward to the year ahead."

The hugely experienced Groeneveld is well known on the woman's tour, having coached Monica Seles, Mary Pierce, Ana Ivanovic and Caroline Wozniacki among others.

He will oversee Sharapova's rehabilitation as she targets a return from the shoulder injury which has sidelined her since August.

World No 4 Sharapova is scheduled to make her competitive comeback at the Brisbane International, which begins on December 30.
