Sixth seed Benoit Paire booked his spot in the second round of the If Stockholm Open with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Santiago Giraldo.

Frenchman Paire dropped serve once in each set but broke his Colombian opponent a total of four times to emerge as the winner in straight sets.

Paire will face Pablo Carreno Busta in round two after the Spaniard progressed when Jurgen Zopp retired from their clash at 5-5 in the opening set.

The only other match in the first round on Monday saw Igor Sijsling comfortably defeat Tobias Kamke 6-4 6-2.

Among those to come through qualifying was veteran Swede Joachim Johansson, who will get the chance to play in the main draw in front of his home crowd after beating Damir Dzumhur 6-2 6-1.
