Unseeded Francesca Schiavone continued her fine run at the KDB Korea Open by knocking out Virginie Razzano to reach the quarter-finals.
The 33-year-old Italian built on her first-round success against seventh seed Andrea Petkovic by accounting for Razzano, 30, in a battle of the veterans, 7-6 (5) 3-6 6-3 on a day when sixth seed Julia Goerges also crashed out of the tournament.
World No 45 Goerges lost in straight sets, 6-4 6-0 to Irina Camelia-Begu in round two.
There was another upset when former world-ranked No 26 Alexandra Dulgheru was beaten 6-1 3-6 6-4 by Lara Arruabarrena.
Elsewhere, Vera Dushevina overcame Annika Beck in straight sets (6-3 7-5) and third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Lee Ye-ra 6-4 6-1 despite trailing 4-0 in the first set.
