Jeremy Chardy: Beaten by world number 239 Marton Fucsovics
Home hope Jeremy Chardy made an early exit at the Moselle Open as he slipped to a surprise straight sets defeat against Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.
Chardy was the seventh seed at the event in Metz, but was convincingly beaten 6-3 7-6 (7/5) by the world number 239.
His compatriot Edouard Roger-Vasselin fared better and, after thrashing Federico Delbonis of Argentina 6-0 6-2, will now face another Frenchman, and top seed, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the second round.
Two more home players progressed on Tuesday with Paul-Henri Mathieu coming through a last set tie-break to beat Holland's Igor Sijsling and Kenny De Schepper overcoming another Dutchman, Jesse Huta Galung, in straight sets.
Eighth seed Florian Mayer of Germany was another to advance in straights as he saw off Pierre-Hugues Herbert for the loss of just five games.
Elsewhere, Slovakia's Lukas Lacko beat Michael Berrer in three sets, while Tobias Kamke proved too strong for Marc Giquel.
