Roger Federer doubles up in Shanghai
Roger Federer is to team-up with China's top male player at next month's Shanghai Masters.
The organisers have revealed that the 32-year-old, 17-time Grand Slam champion, will partner Zhang Ze in the Masters Series event.
Federer, the world No 6, has played just one doubles event this year although he did win an Olympic gold medal alongside Stanislas Wawrinka at the Beijing Games of 2008.
The 23-year-old Ze has a world ranking of 180 and tournament director Michael Luevano said: "We know that Roger does not play a lot of doubles through the year so having him take to the doubles court in Shanghai is a wonderful addition to what is already shaping up to be a fantastic week.
"It is just amazing that Roger has chosen to play with a Chinese player. It is a great testament to his affection for China and his Chinese fans. He really could have played with anyone."
Zhang added: "I know I am going to be quite nervous to be the doubles partner of Roger."
The Shanghai Masters starts on October 6 with Federer yet to book his place at the end-of-year ATP World Tour Finals in London.
