James Ward and Elena Baltacha are through to the second round of qualifying at the US Open.

Ward, the British No 2, enjoyed a comfortable 6-3 6-1 victory over Jonathan Eysseric, while Baltacha beat American Melanie Oudin 6-1 3-6 6-2.

Ward's reward is a clash against Matthias Bachinger, with Baltacha set to face Olga Savchuk.

Johanna Konta failed to progress, though, despite being seeded eighth in qualifying. The 22-year-old suffered a 7-5 6-4 loss against Olivia Rogowska.

Britain has three more hopefuls in qualifying action on Wednesday, with Dan Evans set to take on Peter Polansky, while Tara Moore faces Catalina Castano and Samantha Murray has been drawn against Arina Rodionova.
