Top seeds Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka will contest the WTA Western & Southern Open final after both battled to semi-final victories in Cincinnati on Saturday.

Williams came out on top in a topsy-turvy encounter with defending champion Li Na, eventually sealing a 7-5 7-5 win.

Li won four straight games to lead 5-4 in the first but double-faulted at set point to let Williams back in.

The fifth seed served the second set as well, having been a break down, but again Williams got the break back and went on to seal the match.

Williams, who is yet to win the tournament, told wtatennis.com: "Whenever I'm down I just get really relaxed. I was just thinking, 'You know Serena, just try to do your best, and just try to do what you can'."

Azarenka meanwhile came from a set down to beat Jelena Jankovic 4-6 6-2 6-3.

Azarenka has only beaten Williams twice in 14 attempts, although one of those was earlier this year on a hardcourt in Doha.
