Elina Svitolina: Recorded two breaks of serve in each set against Shahar Peer
Elina Svitolina claimed her maiden WTA Tour title with a 6-4 6-4 triumph over Shahar Peer in the final of the Baku Cup.
Playing in her first final, the 18-year-old managed two breaks of serve in each set as she triumphed in one hour and 37 minutes. She sealed victory in style, hammering down her fourth ace of the contest.
The seventh seed from the Ukraine was the 2010 French Open junior champion and had arrived in Azerbaijan off the back of a semi-final appearance in Bad Gastein, Austria.
"It was a very tough match today and I had a lot of tough matches throughout the week, but I worked really hard coming into the tournament, and it turned out well for me," Svitolina said at the presentation ceremony.
The unseeded Peer, who was once ranked at no 11 in the world but now languishes in the 100s, was appearing in her first WTA final since 2011.
