Fourth seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin crashed out of the Claro Open Colombia after a straight-sets loss to Matteo Viola.

The Frenchman, who received a first-round bye, never really got going as he suffered a 6-3 7-5 defeat.

Viola's reward is a quarter-final showdown with Vasek Pospisil, who was a three-set winner over James Duckworth.

The Canadian held his nerve to record a 7-5 3-6 7-5 victory.

Top seed Janko Tipsarevic moved onto the last-eight for the fourth time this season as he brushed aside Ruben Bemelmans 6-4 7-5.

Tipsarevic, who needed 81 minutes to overcome Bemelmans, will now take on home hope Alejandro Falla.

The Colombian No 2 continued his progress in Bogota with a 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 win over Matthew Ebden.
