American Michael Russell outlasted Igor Sijsling to reach the semi-finals of the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport.

After rain pushed play back two hours, Russell won a first set tie-break before blowing a 5-3 lead in the second set, which Sijsling eventually took also in a breaker.

The Dutchman then won the first three points as the deciding set also went the distance, but Russell rallied to book his place in the last four for only the second time in at ATP event.

Frenchman Nicolas Mahut also made it through to the semi-finals with a 7-6 6-4 triumph over Poland's Michal Przysiezny.
