Second seed Roberta Vinci booked her spot in the quarter-finals of the Italiacom Open in Palermo with a 6-2 7-6 (7-3) win over Polona Hercog.

The Italian came out on top in a match which featured a total of ten break of serve - four conceded by her and six by her Slovenian opponent.

Vinci will face Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the quarter-finals after the fifth-seeded Spaniard defeated Italy's Nastassja Burnett 7-5 4-6 6-3.

Klara Zakopalova sent another home hope packing as the fourth seed saw off Karin Knapp 6-3 4-6 6-4. Zakopalova will face Dinah Pfizenmaier in the last eight.

Third seed Kristina Mladenovic will not be present in the quarter-finals, however, after she suffered a narrow 6-3 2-6 7-6 (8-6) loss to Estrella Cabeza Candela.
