Simona Halep claimed back-to-back WTA titles after dispatching fourth seed Kirsten Flipkens 6-4 6-2 at the Topshelf Open.

The Romanian, who clinched her first title last week in the inaugural Nurnberger Versicherungscup, a clay event, managed victory despite a 75-minute rain delay.

Halep, 21, was a break up at 5-4 when the players were forced off due to the inclement weather, but she came back strong, holding serve to take the set.

The world No 45 then twice broke her 20th ranked opponent's serve to race to 3-0 before the Belgian broke back.

But Flipkens, who was also searching for her second WTA title, had no answer to the powerful groundstrokes from Halep, who easily won her first grass-court title.

Halep now heads to Wimbledon where she faces Russian world No 72 Olga Govortsova in the first round.
