Stanislas Wawrinka: The second seed makes progress in Den Bosch
Stanislas Wawrinka reached the quarter-finals of the Topshelf Open in Den Bosch thanks to victory over Paolo Lorenzi.
The Swiss world No 10 - making his first appearance in the tournament - made sure his Wimbledon preparations continued in the best possible way with a comfortable 6-3 7-6 (8-6) win over his Italian opponent.
Wawrinka, the second seed, held off a second-set fightback from Lorenzi to claim victory on a tiebreak and will face the only other seeded player left in the draw when he meets Jeremy Chardy on Thursday.
In the day's other games, Frenchman Chardy earned his place in the quarter-finals with a 7-5 6-4 win over wildcard Marius Copil.
Xavier Malisse came from a set down to join Chardy in the next round with a 3-6 6-1 6-4 win over Yen-Hsun Lu.
The Belgian will face Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut next after he saw off the challenge of Argentina's Carlos Berlocq 6-2 6-3.
Qualifier Nicolas Mahut also progressed following a comfortable 6-2 6-4 win over Andrey Kuznetsov and he will face Russia's Evgeny Donskoy following his 6-4 7-5 defeat of Robin Haase.
The other quarter-final will see Guillermo Garcia-Lopez play qualifier Jan Hernych after both men came through their respective second-round ties.
In the women's competition, top seed Roberta Vinci crashed out of the competition against Romania's Simona Halep.
The Italian, who had beaten Kaia Kanepi in the first round, fell to a 6-0 6-1 defeat, with Halep now set to play Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko in the last eight.
Tsurenko needed a tie-break to beat Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in their second round match.
Also moving into the next round were third seed Carla Suarez Navarro, who beat Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson 6-3 6-4, and Tsvetana Pironkova, who defeated Irina-Camilia Begu.
Fourth seed Kirsten Flipkens will face seventh seed Ursula Radwanska in the final eight, while second seed Dominika Cibulkova will play Spain's Garbine Muguruza, who is ranked 70th in the world, in the other match.
