Magdalena Rybarikova: Slovak booked quarter-final date with Madison Keys
Top seed Kirsten Flipkens crashed out of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham on Thursday, beaten in straight sets by Magdalena Rybarikova in the third round.
Rybarikova, the 16th seed, prevailed 7-6 (7/5) 6-2 and will face unseeded American Madison Keys in the quarter-finals.
Keys dispatched sixth-seeded German Mona Barthel 6-3 6-2.
Third seed Sorana Cirstea is the highest ranked player left in the rain-hit tournament after coming through a topsy-turvy three-setter with Croatia's Bojana Jovanovski.
The Romanian eventually saw off Jovanovski 6-1 1-6 6-1 and is rewarded with a last-eight meeting against Australian teenager Donna Vekic, who beat American Maria Sanchez 4-6 6-2 6-2.
Also on Thursday, fifth seed Sabine Lisicki overcame Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 7-5 2-6 6-4.
The German will take on American Alison Riske in the quarter-finals. Riske was a 6-1 6-2 winner against Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva.
And in the other quarter-final, Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova is up against 15th seed Francesca Schiavone.
Hantuchova, who beat British No 1 Laura Robson the previous day, earned a 3-6 7-6 (8/6) 6-4 success against Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic, while Italian Schiavone edged out New Zealander Marina Erakovic 7-6(7/3) 6-3.
