Jelena Jankovic: The top seed eased past Sweden's Johanna Larsson to reach the last eight
Jelena Jankovic triumphed not once but twice at the Nurnberger Versicherungscup on Wednesday to book her place in the quarter-finals.
The top seed from Serbia appeared on court at the start of the day to finish off her first round match with Arantxa Rus that had been suspended the previous evening due to rain.
She duly wrapped up a 6-4 6-2 victory before returning to action later on to ease past Sweden's Johanna Larsson by a 6-2 6-0 scoreline.
Jankovic's reward for doubling up is a last-eight showdown with sixth seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino, who saw off Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-1 6-4.
Julia Goerges saw her bid for glory on home soil come to a disappointing end when the fourth-seeded German was beaten 6-1 7-5 by compatriot Andrea Petkovic.
Third seed Alize Cornet of France was another big-name casualty, going down in three sets against Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan, 2-6 6-3 6-3.
There were no such problems for fifth seed Lucie Safarova, though, as she got past Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor of Spain by a 6-4 6-2 scoreline.
Like Jankovic, Simona Halep and Polona Hercog both won two matches in the same day.
Romanian Halep, the seventh seed for the tournament, knocked out Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain 6-1 6-2 having already seen off American Grace Min 6-0 7-5 in a first-round meeting held over.
Meanwhile Hercog made sure she didn't waste her efforts in upsetting Czech second seed Klara Zakopalova 6-3 4-6 6-1 by recording a 6-3 6-3 victory over Julia Cohen of the United States.
In the day's late match, Annika Beck, the eighth seed, defeated Italy's Karin Knapp 6-4 6-2 to set up an all-German quarter-final against Petkovic.
