Gael Monfils: Will play Pablo Andujar in the final of Nice event
Home favourite Gael Monfils continued his return to prominence by reaching the final of the Open de Nice Cote d'Azur after a 7-5 6-4 win over Pablo Andujar.
The home favourite missed much of last season with a knee problem and suffered through indifferent for at the start of this year, dropping to 109 in the world rankings.
But Monfils got the winning feeling back by triumphing in a Challenger event in Bordeaux last week and made it nine victories in a row by defeating Spain's Andujar 7-5 6-4 in the Nice semi-final.
It is the first time the Frenchman has reached a final on the ATP Tour proper since February 2012, when he finished runner-up in Montpellier.
In the final he will meet another Spaniard, Albert Montanes, who reached his first Tour final in almost two years with a 6-4 4-6 6-0 victory over France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
