Anne Keothavong: Briton lost out in qualifying for Roland Garros
Anne Keothavong has missed out on playing in the forthcoming French Open after losing her first-round qualifier at Roland Garros.
The British No 4 was beaten by Eva Birnerova of the Czech Republic, losing 3-6 6-3 6-0.
Keothavong, 29, is currently ranked No 190 in the world, which is 142 below her career high position from four years ago.
British number five Tara Moore was also beaten in the first round of qualifying, going down 6-3 6-3 against Sesil Karatantcheva of Kazakhstan.
But there was better news for British No 3 Johanna Konta who survived her opening match against China's Saisai Zheng.
Konta, ranked 168, won 6-1 6-3 to set up a second round qualifier against Kazakhstan's Galina Voskoboeva.
The top two Brits, Laura Robson and Heather Watson, are assured of their spots in the main draw which takes place on Friday ahead of the start of the clay-court Grand Slam on Sunday.
Elena Baltacha is another Briton assured of her place in the main draw at Roland Garros having recently made her comeback from foot surgery in October.
Currently ranked 234 in the world as a result of her time on the sidelines, Baltacha qualified for the French Open due to her projected ranking of 103, which was determined before her injury struck.
