BMW Open, Munich: Mikhail Youzhny and Jurgen Melzer make early exits

Mikhail Youzhny: Russian went down in three sets to Radek Stepanek
Seventh-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny was the highest-profile casualty in the BMW Open in Munich.
Youzhny lost his first-round match to Czech Radek Stepanek 6-4 5-7 6-4 in almost two and a half hours.
Austrian Jurgen Melzer, the eighth seed, also went out, falling to a 6-3 6-3 loss against French wildcard Gael Monfils in under an hour.
There was better news for fifth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov, who saw off fellow Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4 6-2.
Sixth seed Florian Mayer was given a rather sterner workout by Polish qualifier Lukasz Kubot, but the German prevailed 7-6 (7/2) 4-6 7-5.
Other first-round winners on Tuesday were Slovenia's Grega Zemlja, Serbia's Viktor Troicki, Evgeny Korolev of Kazakhstan and Latvia's Ernests Gulbis.
