Andy Murray (r): Could face Bernard Tomic in his opening match in Miami

British number one Andy Murray will open his Sony Open campaign in Miami against Bernard Tomic or qualifier Marc Gicquel later this week.

The world number three - who missed out on the chance to climb to number two after losing in the Indian Wells quarter-finals to Juan Martin Del Potro - has a bye in the first round at Key Biscayne but he could face up-and-coming Australian Tomic, who will face Gicquel in his opening encounter, in round two.

Should he come through that encounter, Murray might take on Grigor Dimitrov in round three and then potentially Jerzy Janowicz in the fourth round, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych could stand in his way of a place in the final.

Top seed Novak Djokovic, who was beaten in the semi-finals by Del Potro last week, will open against Gilles Muller or Lukas Rosol, while fellow Serbian Janko Tipsarevic and third seed David Ferrer are also in his side of the draw.

Del Potro, seeded sixth after finishing runner-up to Rafael Nadal at Indian Wells, will face either Tobias Kamke or Blaz Kavcic in his opening match, but Ferrer could lie in wait in the quarter-final.

World number two Roger Federer and Indian Wells winner Nadal have both opted to skip the event.
