Andy Murray: Was forced to work hard for his straight sets win

Andy Murray is through to the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after the British No 1 silenced Carlos Berlocq.

It was far from routine for Murray as he was rattled by both his opponent's play and his grunting, but the Scot dug deep to record a 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 win.

Murray was broken twice in the first set - and showed his displeasure more than once - before setting up a last-eight clash with Juan Martin Del Potro.

"It was tough," Murray told atptour.com. "He started well and he was playing very aggressive.

"He had a lot of chances in the first set. He obviously served for it.

"And then the second set was kind of the other way around. I had a lot of chances, but it was still tight. All the games were pretty close, a lot of long games and longish rallies."

Berlocq had led 3-1 and then served for the first set after breaking Murray for a second time in the ninth time.

However Murray held his nerve before claiming the first set on the tiebreak when Berlocq pushed an overhead shot long after some great defence from his opponent

Murray had broken the Argentinean at the start of the second set and although Berlocq hit back to level it just delayed the inevitable.

A neat lob helped Murray move into a 4-3 advantage, with the third seed saving a break point to hold. And although Berlocq kept his hopes alive, Murray served out for the victory.
