David Ferrer continued the defence of his Copa Claro title in Buenos Aires with an easy win over Fabio Fognini.

The world No 4 cruised into the semi-finals of the clay-court championship with a 6-2 6-1 win over the Italian that took only 75 minutes to complete.

Ferrer, who won seven titles in 2012 and is top seed for the tournament, beat 2011 champion Nicolas Almagro in last year's final, and it could well be the same player that provides his biggest obstacle this time around.

Next up for Ferrer is fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo, who crushed German qualifier Julian Reister 6-3 6-2 to make it to the final four.

In the other half of the draw, second seed Almagro had a tough first set against home favourite Federico Del Bonis, but eventually came through 7-6 6-1 in 70 minutes.

That victory set up a semi-final clash with third seed Stanislas Wawrinka who ousted eighth seed Albert Ramos 7-6 6-4 to get to this stage of a tournament for the first time this season.
