World No 9 Janko Tipsarevic has been sent-packing from the Marseille Open, losing in straight sets to Dmitry Tursunov.

The fourth seed was on court for just an hour-and-a-half against the 30-year-old from Moscow who is ranked 110 places lower.

The Serb will rue the loss of the opening set, after failing to capitalise on break points in games three, nine and 11.

Tursunov, meanwhile, never managed to conjure up a single break point of his own in the first set but enjoyed a strong start to the tie-break as he raced into a 4-1 lead.

The second set was more straightforward, after the Russian broke to love in the opening game. He remained in charge, conceding just two points from his four service games and clinched the set in only 31 minutes.

He now faces Luxembourg's Gilles Muller in the last eight. Top seed Tomas Berdych is already through to the quarter-final stage.

Second seed Juan Martin Del Potro also made it through after surviving a tough battle with Frenchman Michael Llodra in three sets.

The Argentinian was well beaten in the first set by Llodra, and had to scrap through a tie-breaker to level the match before finally just edging it 3-6 7-6 7-5.

Fellow seeds Gilles Simon and Jerzy Janowicz enjoyed more routine wins in their second-round matches, knocking out Roberto Bautista-Agut and Julien Benneteau respectively in straight sets.
