Heather Watson: through in three sets for the second successive match in Memphis
Heather Watson reached the quarter-finals of the WTA US National Indoor Tennis Championships with a 2-6 6-0 6-3 victory over Andrea Hlavackova.
The British number one needed three sets to advance for a second successive match in the tournament in Memphis.
Having needed over three hours to see off the challenge of Kazakhstan's Galina Voskoboeva in the last round, Watson was on court for a further one hour and 55 minutes against Hlavackova.
The Czech player broke twice to take the opening set but was quickly pegged back by the world number 41, Watson winning the second to love.
The crucial break in the decider came in the fifth game, the fourth seed grabbing it to put her on course for a clash with Stefanie Voegele in the last eight.
In other second round matches, Marina Erakovic gained revenge over Sofia Arvidsson by knocking out the defending champion 6-1 3-6 6-3 in a repeat of last year's final.
There were no such problems for top seed Kirsten Flipkens, however, as the Belgian got past Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko by a 7-5 3-6 6-3 scoreline.
Sabine Lisicki, the third seed from Germany, also progressed, though she too needed three sets to see off Hungary's Melinda Czink 7-6 (7/0) 4-6 6-2.
Kristina Mladenovic, seeded eight, despatched Victoria Duval 6-1 3-6 6-3, while Voegele won the first match on court, seeing off Claire Feuerstein 3-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-1.
