Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone joined third-seeded Lourdes Dominguez Lino and fifth seed Flavia Pennetta in the second round of the Copa Claro Colsanitas tournament after all three players advanced on Tuesday.

Schiavone, the fourth seed at the event in Bogota, came from behind to beat Canadian qualifier Sharon Fichman 4-6 6-4 6-4, while two-time winner Dominguez Lino overcame wild card Colombian favourite Catalina Castano 3-6 6-2 6-1.

In the last match played on the night, 2005 champion Pennetta battled past Russian Alexandra Panova 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Defending champion Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino of Spain held off another Colombian wild card Yuliana Lizarazo 6-2 1-6 6-3.

In other results on the day, Timea Babos of Hungary outlasted Spanish qualifier Beatriz Garcia Vidagany 6-4 1-6 7-6 (7-4), Brazilian qualifier Teliana Pereira ousted Austrian Yvonne Meusburger 6-3 6-3, Italian Karin Knapp crushed Czech Eva Birnerova 6-1 6-1 and Romanian Alexandra Cadantu had too much power for Portuguese Maria Joao Koehler, winning 6-0 6-3.

The only upsets on the day occurred when sixth- seeded Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus was shocked by when Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-4 6-3 and seventh-seeded Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier was dumped out 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 by Croatian qualifier Tereza Mrdeza.
