Juan Martin del Potro dispatched Roger Federer's conqueror Julien Benneteau in straight sets to win the ATP World Tour 500 indoor title in Rotterdam on Sunday.

The second seed overcame his French opponent 7-6 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes to add his 14th tour-level title to his trophy cabinet.

The big-hitting Del Potro had reached the final after holding serve in 40 sucessive games, but Benneteau broke him twice in the opening set as he took it to a tie-breaker.

However, the 24-year-old Argentine eventually prevailed 7-2 after finding his angles to produce an array of classy winners.

The second set proved to be more straightforward for the 2009 US Open winner although Benneteau saved four match points when serving at 5-2 in the second set.

It was only a stay of execution though as Del Potro eventually outmuscled the 31-year-old and served out the match to love and become only the second Argentine to win in Rotterdam after Guillermo Vilas in 1982.

Del Potro, who finished runner-up to Federer at this tournament last year, now has a 14-5 record in ATP finals.

"It feels amazing, it was a big goal for me to win this title after losing the final last year," said Del Potro. "I'm so happy to be the champion. I'm feeling very confident with my serve, hopefully for the rest of the season.

"I will try to keep on winning, I'm looking forward to my next event. It's a big challenge for me this season to try and move closer to the number one position."

Meanwhile, world No 39 Benneteau is still looking for his first career title after losing all eight of his finals.
