Serbia: Davis Cup team celebrate victory over Belgium in Charleroi
Serbia, France and Argentina eased into the Davis Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.
Serbia, the 2010 champions, reached the last eight for the fourth successive year when Viktor Troicki and Nenad Zimonjic defeated Steve Darcis and Ruben Bemelmans 6-4 6-4 5-7 6-4 in the doubles to secure a 3-0 win over Belgium.
World number one Novak Djokovic and Troicki had both won their singles rubbers on Friday to put the Serbs in control of the contest on the indoor clay in Charleroi.
Spain, the most successful Davis Cup team of recent years, stayed alive in their clash with Canada as Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez beat Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil 4-6 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-2. Canada have a 2-1 lead heading into the final day.
In Rouen, Michael Llodra and Julien Benneteau teamed up for France to see off Israeli pairing Dudi Sela and Jonathan Erlich 7-6 (7/3) 6-1 6-0 and open an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the tie, which is being played on an indoor hardcourt.
Top 10 pair Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet had seized the initiative for France - for whom Arnaud Clement is making his captaincy debut - with singles victories the previous day.
Argentina will take on France in the last eight after they went 3-0 up on Germany in Buenos Aires.
Following singles wins for Carlos Berlocq and Juan Monaco, David Nalbandian and Horacio Zeballos earned a doubles victory over Christopher Kas and Tobias Kamke, 6-1 6-4 5-7 6-2.
Italy moved 2-1 up on Croatia on indoor clay in Turin thanks to Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini's 3-6 6-1 6-3 7-6 (13/11) doubles success against Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig.
Austria reduced their deficit to 2-1 against Kazakhstan, Julian Knowle and Alexander Peya earning a 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 7-6 (7/3) doubles success over Andrey Golubev and Yuiry Schuk on indoor clay in Astana.
Brazil are also 2-1 down in their clash with the USA after Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares surprisingly beat Bob and Mike Bryan 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 3-6 6-3.
