Heather Watson: Lost in three sets to Anastasija Sevastova
Heather Watson's WTA Pattaya Open challenge is over after a three-set defeat to Anastasija Sevastova.
The eighth seed failed to build on her promising form from the Australian Open as she suffered a 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-2 loss to the Latvian in two hours 26 minutes.
There was better news for Watson's doubles partner Marina Erakovic, with the New Zealander beating Varatchaya Wongteanchai 6-3 7-6 (7-4) in the second round.
However there was an upset in the delayed first-round ties as Ana Ivanovic crashed out.
The top seed from Serbia was beaten 6-3 5-7 6-3 by Ayumi Morita.
Fellow seeds Daniela Hantuchova and Elena Vesnina managed to avoid suffering the same fate - although only after three-set clashes.
Hantuchova, the No 6 seed, came out on top 6-1 3-6 6-0 against Olga Puchkova, while seventh-seeded Vesnina eventually saw off Eleni Daniilidou 6-2 5-7 6-2.
