Heather Watson is through to second round of the Pattaya Open after Timea Babos retired hurt.

Watson, who is seeded eighth, was in complete control of the match, leading 6-1 3-0 when the Hungarian called it quits.

The 20-year-old world No 40 will now face Anastasija Sevastova after the Latvian toppled Misaki Doi 6-4 6-2.

It was a good day for the seeds in Thailand, with Maria Kirilenko, Sabine Lisicki and Sorana Cirstea all advancing.

Second seed Kirilenko registered a 6-3 7-5 win over Akgul Amanmuradova, while Cirstea, the No 4 seed, brushed aside Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-1 6-3.

Fifth-seeded Lisicki recorded a routine 6-2 6-3 win against fellow German Tatjana Malek.

Luksika Kumkhum and Anastasia Rodionova also recorded straight-sets victories. Kumkhum beat Casey Dellacqua 6-2 6-2, while Rodionova overcame Vania King 6-4 6-4.
