Juan Martin del Potro produced a dominant display to crush Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets at the Kooyong Classic.

Del Potro, who will play home favourite Lleyton Hewitt in the final, came out on top 6-4 6-1 as Baghdatis struggled to get going.

Baghdatis was guilty of making more than 20 unforced errors - and he had no answer to del Potro's booming serve.

And del Potro, who won eight of the last nine games, is now looking forward to facing Hewitt.

"Playing Lleyton will tell me how my game is doing," he said.

"Hewitt is my idol. He was always my favourite player. He's a good example for me, a great champion.

"I like to play him, I like to play long points and test myself - but I would also like to win this title.

"I know this match will be really tough. Lleyton means a lot to me, he's a big champion for Australia. He has worked hard and made sacrifices."
