Fernando Verdasco and Anabel Medina Garrigues win the Hopman Cup for Spain

Spain won the Hopman Cup for a fourth time following a straight-sets doubles victory against Serbia in the final in Perth.

Fernando Verdasco and Anabel Medina Garrigues overcame top-seeded glamour Serbian pairing Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic 6-4 7-5 in the deciding mixed doubles rubber.

Serbia were denied their first title, which is in its 25th year, after the tie was left in the balance at 1-1 going into the final match of the day.

Underdogs Verdasco and 50th-ranked Medina Garrigues proved too hot from the start, dominating the opening set to take it 6-4.

The duo then broke in game 11 of the final set and then served out to take it 7-5.

"We were unfortunate last time, this time we were beaten by a better team," Djokovic said.

Garrigues had pulled Spain level earlier in the day after a thrilling 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 victory over Ivanovic.

Ivanovic had a chance to seal the title, but eventually went down in two hours and 38 minutes.

Djokovic had recorded a straight-sets victory over Verdasco to hand Serbia a 1-0 lead.

The reigning Australian Open champion committed just 13 unforced errors in comparison to Verdasco's 34 on the way to a 6-3 7-5 triumph.
