Juan Martin Del Potro boosted his hopes of qualifying for the last four of the ATP World Tour Finals by securing a dominant 6-0 6-4 win over Janko Tipsarevic.

The sixth seed was in control throughout the contest and needed only one hour and 16 minutes to complete victory over his opponent at the O2 Arena.

Del Potro still has an uphill task to reach the semi-finals, however, as David Ferrer now only needs to beat Tipsarevic, who looked well below full fitness on Thursday, to progress along with Roger Federer.

A sluggish Tipsarevic put himself on the back foot straight away, serving two double faults as he dropped serve to 15 in the opening game of the match.

Del Potro consolidated the break and then struck again in the third game, giving himself some early breathing space with a powerful forehand winner.

Tipsarevic went 0-40 down in his next service game but came back to save a total of five break points before buckling again, with Del Potro rounding out the 'bagel' straight afterwards.

The Serbian saved another break point to get his first game on the board at the start of the second set as he finally seemed to be getting to grips with his equipment after a fourth racquet change.

The resurgence did not last long, however, as Del Potro broke Tipsarevic's serve for a fourth time in the fifth game of the second set.

Tipsarevic did manage to limit the deficit to just two games second time around, but Del Potro's superiority was never in doubt as he served out the match with ease.
