Polish qualifier Jerzy Janowicz continued his fairytale run at the Paris Masters with a brilliant semi-final victory over Frenchman Gilles Simon.

Janowicz, who put out Andy Murray, became the first qualifier to make a Masters 1000 event final since 2003, and the way he is playing he could well be lifting the title after the manner of his 6-4 7-5 win over Simon.

The giant Pole came with all guns blazing, thumping down a fearsome serve and backing it up with thundering ground strokes, but he also has a superbly crafted drop-shot that caught Simon out on more than one occasion.

Janowicz sent down 11 aces and 39 winners during the match, where he displayed no nerves whatsoever during his near 90-minute demolition job despite it being his first Masters semi-final.

The 21-year-old whistled through the opening set in just 35 minutes after breaking Simon in the fifth game to lead 3-2, and while the Frenchman was struggling to hold serve Janowicz's own looked impregnable.

It was no surprise Janowicz served out the set, but in the second the more experienced Simon started to creep back into his return games more - forcing deuce in the third and making Janowicz show superb nerve with a drop-shot sealing the hold.

The match went with serve from then on until Janowicz suddenly found a few booming winners to go 0-40 up, and he got the break at the second attempt when another of his favourite drop-shots got him 6-5 in front.

Serving for a place in the final, Janowicz hardly blinked despite Simon fending off a match point, and it was no surprise to see the Polish talent go back to the drop-shot to seal his place in the final.

After a stunning tournament, now only Frenchman in Michael Llodra or Spaniard David Ferrer will stand in his way of the title.
