Jo-Wilfried Tsonga: Qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals with win over Nicolas Almagro
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Janko Tipsarevic both booked places at the ATP World Tour Finals with third round victories at the Paris Masters.
Home favourite Tsonga saw off Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-3) at the French tournament while Tipsarevic defeated Juan Monaco 6-3 3-6 6-3.
Those results eliminated Almagro and Monaco from the race for London while the only other remaining hopeful, Milos Raonic, lost 6-3 7-6 (7-1) to Sam Querrey.
Tsonga came out on top in a tight clash with Almagro in which neither player dropped serve, in fact the 11th-seeded Spaniard was defeated without facing a break point in the entire contest.
But Tsonga, who was forced to save two break points in the first set and another in the second, dominated both tie-breaks to complete the win in one hour and 45 minutes.
Tipsarevic was pushed to a third set by Monaco but eventually emerged victorious behind an effective first serve, on which he lost only eight points.
He will face Jerzy Janowicz in the next round after the Pole claimed a shock win against Andy Murray earlier on Thursday.
With Tsonga and Tipsarevic having secured qualification the eight-strong line-up for the World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena has now been completed.
The pair will join Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin Del Potro in Greenwich next week.
Tsonga will be making his third appearance at the season finale, while Tipsarevic returns for a second consecutive year.
