Michael Llodra: Through to the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters
Seventh seed Juan Martin Del Potro saw his challenge at the Paris Masters ended in the third round following a 6-4 6-3 defeat to Michael Llodra.
The Argentine could not make any inroads on his opponent's serve as the French wildcard lost a total of just 10 points when starting the rallies.
Llodra broke Del Potro once in each set as he delighted his home crowd by completing what was ultimately a straightforward victory in one hour and nine minutes.
Elsewhere in the third round, David Ferrer overcame a second-set wobble to claim a 6-2 4-6 6-2 win over Stanislas Wawrinka.
The fourth-seeded Spaniard will face home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the pick of the quarter-finals.
Fifth seed Tomas Berdych kept his campaign on course after rallying from a set down to beat Kevin Anderson.
The Czech world No.6, a champion at the event back in 2005, overcame a sluggish start to book a quarter-final date with France's Gilles Simon.
Berdych improved his head-to-head record against big-serving Anderson to 4-0 with a 1-6 6-3 6-4 triumph and has now won nine matches this season after losing the first set.
He will play Simon for a place in the semi-finals after Kei Nishikori withdrew from his scheduled third round match with the Frenchman due to a recurrence of an ankle injury.
Nishikori, seeded 15th, beat Benoit Paire in the opening round earlier this week but said the problem, which he has been struggling with since Shanghai last month, had worsened after his return to action.
