Roger Federer: remained on course for a sixth Swiss Indoors title in seven years
World number one Roger Federer eased into the semi-finals of the Swiss Indoors with a straight-sets success over Benoit Paire.
Federer, bidding for a third straight title and sixth in total at his hometown event in Basel, needed only 54 minutes to complete a 6-2 6-2 victory.
Paire, the world number 46 from France, was broken twice in each set during an impressive display from Federer, who sent down seven aces and did not face a break point.
"It was a good match for me and I'm pleased to be back in the semi-finals," said Federer.
"It cannot have been easy for him playing a top-10 player. I had to play aggressive, but by the fourth game of the match, I knew what I had to do."
Federer faces another Frenchman, Paul-Henri Mathieu, in the last four.
"I'm looking forward to playing Paul-Henri, he's from my generation," added Federer. "It's good to see him back as well after his knee problems. I'm looking forward to the match."
