Nicolas Almagro: Through to the last eight at Stockholm Open
Third seed Nicolas Almagro progressed to the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open with a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) victory over Romanian qualifier Marius Copil.
The Spaniard, who is hoping for a strong showing at the tournament to boost his hopes of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, had to withstand 15 aces in his 82-minute win.
He will face former world number one Lleyton Hewitt in the last eight after the Australian veteran claimed a 7-6 (7-2) 2-6 6-4 win over eighth seed Jarkko Nieminen.
Hewitt dropped serve six times in the contest but eventually edged his Finnish opponent in a deciding set.
Sixth-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny had a much easier time in reaching the quarter-finals as he sailed past home hope Patrik Rosenholm 6-0 6-2.
Fourth seed Florian Mayer was sent crashing out, however, after he suffered a 4-6 6-4 6-2 defeat to Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania.
