Novak Djokovic booked a Shanghai Masters semi-final date with Tomas Berdych after easing to a comprehensive straight-sets victory over Tommy Haas on Friday.

The world No.2 was in ruthless mood as he swept aside his German opponent 6-3 6-3 to race into the last four.

Despite taking both of the two break points he opened up in the match, Haas, who was searching for his 500th career ATP win, simply had no answer to the Serb's power.

Djokovic broke the unseeded 34-year-old five times in total and cruised to a win which keeps the pressure on Roger Federer in the race for the No.1 world ranking.

Federer kept his title challenge in Shanghai on track with a routine 6-3 6-4 victory over 10th seed Marin Cilic, taking his career record against the Croat to 4-0.

Czech fourth seed Berdych had earlier sealed his place in the last four with an impressive 6-3 7-6 (7/4) victory over fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Berdych grabbed a crucial break against the powerful Frenchman in the eighth game of the first set and edged the second set tie-break to keep his title challenge on track.

"I think the biggest difference between me and Jo was I was able to take the small chances during even the first and especially the second set," said Berdych afterwards.
