Reigning champion Andy Murray takes just 58 minutes to reach the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters

Andy Murray nonchalantly navigated his way into the last eight of the Shanghai Masters courtesy of a slick straight-sets victory over Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The reigning champion was on top form during his 6-2 6-2 triumph, speeding to his 10th successive victory at the event in just 58 minutes on court.

Murray, who was handed a bye and a walkover to reach round three without playing a shot, broke an out-of-sorts Dolgopolov twice en route to claiming the opening set in a hurry.

Both men dropped serve at the start of the second set, Murray smashing his racquet after his faux pas, but the Scot responded in style with two further breaks to seal his place in the quarter-finals.

"When you play against (Dolgopolov) it is very important to play a solid match but also important to play with variety," Murray told Sky Sports.

"Normally his game gives guys problems if you play the same ball over and over, when he is the one chipping balls, hitting some flat balls, coming to the net using the drop shot.

"I tried to use the slice a bit, some higher balls and some off-pace balls so he couldn't have the rhythm to play his normal game."

Next up for the US Open winner will be Radek Stepanek, who recorded a 6-4 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 victory over world number eight John Isner.
