Victoria Azarenka clinched the China Open with a resounding 6-3 6-1 victory over Maria Sharapova.

It was third time this year the Belarusian has beaten Sharapova in a final after the Australian Open and Indian Wells.

Top-seeded Azarenka raced into a 4-0 lead in the opening set as Sharapova struggled with her serve.

The Russian recorded six double faults in the opening set and held her serve just twice in the entire match.

Sharapova won seventh and eighth games, but she was subsequently broken again, dropping the set in 43 minutes.

The second set replicated the first with Azarenka taking control and moving into a 4-0 lead.

Azarenka came from behind to hold her serve in a lengthy fifth game to make it 5-0 before Sharapova scraped a game, following an 18-shot rally.

Sharapova had two break points to claw another game back, but she was unable to convert as Azarenka completed the victory.
