Zhang Ze: Shock victory over Richard Gasquet in Beijing
Local player Zhang Ze delighted home fans with a shock victory over Richard Gasquet in the second round of the China Open.
The world number 165 Zhang, who is playing the tournament as a wildcard, beat the world number 14 and fifth seed 6-4 3-6 6-4 in their second round clash.
There was little to choose between the two players through most of the match, but it was the Chinese player who played the key points better, converting all three break points he earned.
Zhang's reward is a quarter-final meeting with Germany's Florian Mayer.
In other matches on Thursday, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny progressed to the last eight with a 6-3 6-3 victory over South Africa's Kevin Anderson, Spain's Feliciano Lopez denied Chinese Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu 6-5 7-6, while Sam Querrey proved too strong for Andreas Seppi.
