Petra Kvitova: Two early exits in in the Far East
World number five Petra Kvitova has bowed out of the China Open after a shock 6-3 6-2 defeat to Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.
The fourth seed lost in the second round at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last week and saw her challenge end at the same stage in Beijing as Navarro claimed a surprise win.
Kvitova, who has yet to qualify for the season-ending WTA Championships, was left to rue a poor serving display, double faulting five times in total.
Elsewhere, world No 2 Victoria Azarenka progressed to the second round with ease, thrashing Alize Cornet of France 6-1 6-0, while Sabine Lisicki dug deep to overcome Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3 5-7 6-2.
