Top seed David Ferrer was forced to come back from a set down to beat Igor Sijsling 4-6 6-3 6-4 and book his spot in the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open.

The Spaniard surprisingly fell behind against an opponent ranked 92 places below him but found his form in the second set to take the match into a decider.

In the final set the pair traded breaks early on before Ferrer finally edged ahead before going on to take his 62nd win of the season on the ATP Tour, the most any player has to their name so far.

Ferrer will play Julien Benneteau in the last four after the Frenchman claimed a comfortable 6-2 6-2 win over Alejandro Falla in just 58 minutes.

Seventh seed Benneteau dropped just seven points on his serve and broke his opponent a total of four times.

The other semi-final will see second seed Juan Monaco take on third seed Kei Nishikori after both players recorded straightforward victories on Friday.

Monaco was a 6-3 6-4 winner over Vasek Pospisil while Nishikori enjoyed an early finish when his opponent, 2009 champion Nikolay Davydenko, retired after losing the first set of their clash.
